يعتبرالرسم من أقدم الفنون التي عرفها الإنسان ومارسها منذ وجوده على الأرض، وذلك منذ آلاف السنين حيث مارس الرسم والنقش على الجدران كنشاط إنساني، وذلك بأبعاد متعددة سواء كانت أبعاد فنية أوتعبيرية. حيث كان الإنسان القديم مُضطراً إلى التعبير عن مشاعره ومخاوفه من خلال رسوم ونقوش تركها لنا شاهداً على أن لغة الصورة جائت قبل لغة الكتابة، حيث أن لغة الصورة عبارة عن تعبير تشكيلي يستلزم عمل علاقة ما على سطح ما، أو هي التعبير عن الأشياء بواسطة الخط أساسًا أو البقع أو بأي أداة أخرى بهدف التواصل الإنساني.
وهذا ما يجعلنا نقول بأن فن الرسم هو عملية تسجيل العناصر المرئية أو الخواطر الداخلية باستخدام الخطوط المختلفة والأشكال والمساحات والقيم اللونية الضوئية المًنسجمة فيما بينهما والمعبرة عن ذات الأشياء وقد يكون عملاً تحضرياً أو كروكياً لعمل فني أخر، ولكن في ذات الوقت يُعد عملاً فنيًا مستقلاً وقائمًا بذاته.
هُنا، يكمن السؤال الذي نسمعه كثيراً من مُحبي ومُتذوقي الفنون التشكيلية، ويخطر ببال الجميع:
هل يُمكن تعلم الرسم كمهارة أو كصنعة أو حرفة ؟ أم هو مُقتصر فقط للموهوبين؟
