لقد كان لارتباط الخوف بالعلم والمعرفة أثره في اختلاف مخاوف الناس ، فكل إنسان يتعلم ما هي العوامل أو الأشخاص أو المواقف أو القيم التي تجعله خائفاً ، "كما يتعلم أشياء مختلفة عما يتعلمه غيره من الناس فالأشياء التي تسبب خوف شخص ما قد تسبب غضب شخص آخر " ، حتى أن الإنسان نفسه قد تتغير مخاوفه بتقدم الزمن فكل لحظة تمر تضيف إليه " جديداً من المعرفة ، ومن التجربة يحسب حسابه في اللحظة التالية ، فلا يمكن أن يمرّ الإنسان بحالة واحدة مرتين" .
من هنا كان الخوف من الله عز وجل يزداد في نفوس الصالحين كلما ازدادوا معرفة به وكلما ازدادوا إيماناً به ، ومن هنا أيضاً كان خوف الناس من غير الله سبحانه وتعالى كلما ابتعدوا عن الله عز وجل وجهلوا أوصافه التي خوف الناس بها .
