رواية الخوف من الطيران، رواية مثيرة للجدل للكاتبة المثيرة للجدل إريكا يونغ وهي كاتبة ومُدرّسة أميركية، من أصل بولوني. ولدت عام 1942 لعائلة يهودية من أب يعمل رجل أعمال ولد في إنكلترا لعائلة من المهاجرين الروس وأم رسّامة ومُصممة رسوم أقمشة ودُمى. ولإريكا أخت اسمها سوزان متزوجة من رجل أعمال لبناني اسمه آرثر ضوّ. تزوجت إريكا أربع مرات ولها ابنة اسمها مولي يونغ- فاست من زواجها الثالث. وتقوم إريكا بزيارة هايدلبرغ في ألمانيا حيث كانت تُقيم مع زوجها الثاني في ثُكنة عسكرية، وتزور مدينة البندقية كثيراً. أتى المغني الأميركي بوب ديلون على ذِكرها في أغنيته «Highlands». ساندت المثليين جنسياً وتشريع زواجهم مدَّعية أنَّ «زواج المثليين نعمة وليس نقمة ويُعزز الاستقرار والعائلة وهو حتماً في صالح الأطفال». أشهر أعمالها قاطبة رواية «الخوف من الطيران» عام 1973، وهي رواية أثارت وتُثير جدلاً واسعاً بسبب صراحتها الشديدة حول شؤون المرأة الجنسية، صدر منها أكثر من ثلاثين طبعة، وبيع منها أكثر من 20 مليون نسخة. ومن مؤلفاتها الأخرى: «كيف تنقذين زواجك»، «مظلات هبوط وقُبلات»، «الشيطان طليقاً: إريكا يونغ تكتب عن هنري ميللر» و«الخوف من الخمسين: مذكرات منتصف العمر» وغيرها… يتميَّز أدب يونغ بجرأته الشديدة في الأمور الجنسية إلى درجة الإباحية أحياناً.
