تبحر الكاتبة عبر طريق الحرير مع جوهرة مسقط السفينة الشراعية المستنسخة من السفينة العربية الأم التي يعود تاريخها إلى القرن التاسع الميلادي، تسرد سطور الرواية قصة السفينة التي التقت بالموت وأشرفت على الغرق في أكثر من موضع، إنها مغامرة وقصة كفاح تعكس قوة الإرادة البشرية أمام جبروت الطبيعة القاسية، وما كابده طاقم الجوهرة من أهوال ومخاطر في سبيل إيصالها إلى سنغافورة وتحقيق الحلم المخضب بزبد البحر.
في الرواية ثيمات تراوح بين واقعية الحدث والمتخيل السردي والمونولوج الروحي الذي يستنطق أغوار شخوص الرواية وبطلها بضمير المخاطب راصدة قلق البحارة ورغباتهم وعذاباتهم في عزلة كونية استمرت ستة أشهر لطاقم إبحار متعدد الجنسيات والديانات .
ولقد تم تقسيم الرواية إلى دسر إشارة إلى العنصر الأساسي الذي دخل في صناعة الجوهرة وهي الحبال.
