كتاب التفاوض الفعال تأليف باربارا أندرسون، التفاوض جزء أصيل من حياة الإنسان, إلى حد أنه يمكن القول إن الإنسان كائن مفاوض, فهو فى حالة مفاوضات دائمة, سواء كانت على أمور صغيرة أوعلى قضايا كبيرة, ففى حالة تحقيق النجاح فى الدراسة, أو عند تنفيذ أمر بعينه,كما قد يكون فى حالة تفاوض معهم ومع والدتهم, حول المكان الذى سيقضون فيه العطلة الصيفية.
وتدور مفاوضات أخرى بين أفراد الأسرة, بشكل أوبآخر, عن أشياء تتصل بحياتهم, ومنذ أن يضع الإنسان قدمه خارج البيت, يجد نفسه فى مواجهة أنواع شتى من المفاوضات, التى قد تبدأ بحديث مع بواب العمارة عن شؤون العمارة, كالنظافة وأعطال المصعد وزحام المواقف, ثم تبدأ مفاوضات أخرى مع السكان, على أشياء مشتركة بينهم, أما فى الشارع, فهناك مفاوضات لا تنتهى.
ومهما كان مستوى التفاوض, فإنه يحتاج من الإنسان قدرات ومهارات, تعينه على مختلف المستويات, وإن من الخطورة عدم إدراك الإنسان أنه فى وسط موقف يقتضى التفاوض, وإذا حدث ذلك, فإنه لن يستطيع تحسين النتائج لصالحه, لأنه إذا لم يخطر فى باله, أن هذه الصفقة يدخل فيها بالتفاوض, ولم يكن مستعدا, فإن النتائج غالبا سوف تكون خطيرة وغير مرضية له.
