هذا التجمع سيكون لعائلة أيرلندية نلم أعضاءها من الشتات لتجمتع في "دبلن" ويحاول أفرادها تكوين مزق صورتهم الجماعية من ذكرياتهم من مشوار حياتهم من أسرارهم التي نجحوا في حجبها لعقود طويلة من رؤاهم حول العالم الذي ينبذهم لأسباب قد لا يكون لهم دخل فيها من محبتهم الملوثة بالرذيلة أحياناً ومن كراهيتهم التي تنكشف جذورها بعد سنوات. تبدأ أحداث الرواية بوقوف البطلة الإيرلندية فجأة أمام مرآة نفسها فتنقطع عن مواصلة رتابة حياتها الشخصية، وتذهب لتجتمع مع عائلتها لجلب جثة شقيقها وفي هذه اللحظة- وللمرة الأولى- ستتعرف على شقيقها هذا الذي تعرفه العائلة كلص وسكير وصاحب سوابق خرج من السجن وقاطعته عائلته ونبذته حتى اعتادت غيابه وشبه استئصاله من العائلة إلى حد أنهم لم يعرفوا أنه كان مقيماً في انجلترا. وهذا الشقيق مات منتحراً على طريقة الكاتبة "فرجينيا وولف" حيث ملأ جيوبه بالحجارة وغطس في النهر ببطء، ستعرفه أخته ولكن ليس قبل أن تستنطق زمن العائلة كله عبر ثلاثة أجيال، وليس قبل أن تنفصل عن عالمها سريع الوتيرة وتحملق في مشاهد ذكرياتها المتعددة معه لكي تراه. - الرواية حائزة على جائزة المان بوكر البريطانية لعام 2007.
