رواية البعد الأثيري هي رواية عربية معاصره تدور أحداثها حول شاب نشأ في قرية وادعة وبقيت صورها عالقة في ذاكرته ومبادئها راسخة في وجدانه، ينتقل الطفل كنان برفقة عائلته للعيش في المدينة ليختبر قسوتها على البيئة والعلاقات الاجتماعية لكن ما خفف عنه وطأة هذه القسوة، والدته الحنونة، ورجل ستيني لقبه الحكيم وكان بمثابة الأب الروحي له؛ ينهل من معين خبرته وسعة اطلاعه.
ومع الانتقال إلى المدينة تعلق كنان بالقراءة التي شرّعت له النوافذ على مختلف العلوم والحضارات، ولاحقا بالاطلاع على الشعوب وثقافاتها من خلال السفر.
تدور في الرواية أحداث حزينة وأخرى مشوقة كقصة شعيب التي تعد محور الرواية، وقصة الفتاة التي تعرضت قريتها لتسونامي وفقدت معظم أفراد عائلتها، إضافة إلى أحداث لا تفسير منطقي كتلك الفتاة سارة التي أنقذته وحين ذهب مرة أخرى ليشكرها تفاجأ بأن بيتها مهجور منذ أمد بعيد، وتلك العاصفة المغناطيسية التي عبث بالأرواح والأجساد، وتسرد من خلال ذاكرة الطفل جمال القرية وتفاصيل حياة أهلها، تحمل مقارنات بين فترتين زمنيتين والتغيرات التي حدثت.
يمر في الرواية أشخاص كثر كل منهم له خصوصية، يؤثرون ويتأثرون بالشاب كنان وتكوين شخصيته، ومنظومة المبادئ والأخلاق والمثل، والنظرة العامة للحياة، وطبيعة العلاقات ومحدداتها بين أفراد المجتمع.
