ولد أحمد شفيق بهجت في 15 نوفمبر 1932 بالقاهرة، وتوفى 11 ديسمبر 2011متزوج وله ابنان, حصل على ليسانس حقوق من جامعة القاهرة.
كاتب صحفي عمل صحفيًا بجريدة أخبار اليوم (1955)، ومجلة صباح الخير (1957)، وجريدة الأهرام (1958) ثم رئيس مجلس الإدارة ورئيس تحرير مجلة الإذاعة والتليفزيون (1976)..
ونائب رئيس التحرير للشئون الفنية بجريدة الأهرام منذ (1982) يكتب عمود "صندوق الدنيا" بجريدة الأهرام.
عضو نقابة الصحفيين وله أكثر من عشرين مؤلفًا دينيًا وأدبيًا، منها: أنبياء الله، بحار الحب عند الصوفية، مذكرات صائم، مذكرات زوج، أحسن القصص، الطريق إلى الله، قميص يوسف، وغيرها.
له برنامج إذاعي يومي بعنوان: كلمتين وبس

كتاب الأمير والدرويش تأليف أحمد بهجت، نحن لا نعرف الكثير عن العارفين بالله وفي التراث العربي والآثار الأدبية الصوفية جواهر كثيرة من بينها قصة أمير الممالك السبعة الذى خرج ذات يوم من قصره حافيا وراء درويش عابر، وقاده هذا الخروج إلى الله ، هناك من يعتقد أن هذا الأمير هو إبراهيم بن أدهم وهناك من يظن أنه بشر الحافى، ولعل هذا الغموض يمنح الخيال مزيداً من الحرية ، ويرفع من أمامه العوائق والحواجز، نحن أمام رجل يلتمس الطريق إلى معرفة نفسه، ويلتمس بعد ذلك طريقه إلى الله، إن انتقال الإنسان من استسلامه للحس أو عبوديته له، إلى اكتشاف الروح وسيطرة الروح على الحواس هو انتقال جدير بالتأمل.
