عادت جنى إلى الفندق نصف حية، اصطحبها أحد رجال الشرطة. كانت كالمخدرة، مصدومة، يائسة، بدأ غيظها ينهش صدرها كالسرطان، لم تكن قادرة على الكلام. أرادت الصراخ فلم تستطع، اشتهت البكاء فعاندها غضبها، شعرت بسواد يشدها كموج غاضب ويتكسر فوق ألمها، دخلت غرفتها في الفندق، لم تنظر في أنحائها. سارت كالأسيرة نحو السرير، جلست فوقه بتباطؤ وأفلتت نظرتها الجامدة لتتسمر على الحائط، لم تعد تشعر بالوقت نبضات قلبها المتسارعة كانت المؤشر الوحيد الذي نبهها إلى أنها ما زالت على وجه هذه الدنيا، أدركت أنها مدفونة وهي حية، ولكنها استطاعت جمع فتات تحللها لتتذكر أن لها أماً في جنيف. أمسكت الهاتف واتصلت بها، وعند سماع صوتها انطلقت كلمة "ماما" من فمها مثقلة بالبحات وغرقت في بكاء مر.
