المسرحية تدور في نطاق مسرح الطفل, وتتحدث حول حطاب وابنته الصغيرة يعيشان في كوخ عند أطراف غابة مسحورة، حيث تختطف ساحرة الأطفال وتحولهم إلى أشجار. يحاول الأب بشجاعته وفأسه السحري إنقاذ الأطفال وإعادة زوجته المفقودة، بينما تواجه البنت وحدها محاولات الساحرة لخداعها. المسرحية تمزج بين الدراما العائلية والخيال، وتبرز قيم الشجاعة، والأمل، والحب العائلي في مواجهة الشر
