إن حسن العمل-معيشة أو عبادة-لا يعني عند المؤمن الأداء والإتمام وكفى، وإنما يزيد عليه: الاتقان. وهي كلمة واسعة الإحاطة، ثرية المحتوى. إذ تشمل الإبداع والإمتاع، والتجميل والتحسين، والتهذيب والتزيين، وما يتطلبه كل ذلك من إدراك وتيقظ وعلم وحلم وورع وتدريب، حتى يصير "الاتقان" الذي يحبه الله عز وجل وأوصى به رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم، يغفله المسلم أحياناً، وربما كثيراً، في سلوكه وفي معاملاته اليومية، في كل المواقع، وعلى جميع المستويات، الخاصة منها والعامة، فيما يسميه الناس بـ"الذوق العام"، لكنه من منظور الإسلام-لو تأملنا جيداً-يحتاج إلى تعريف آخر، إذ يرتقي بالمسلم وبالمجتمع درجة أسمى وأرفع، وهو موضوع هذا الكتاب.
وهذا الموضوع ربما يبدو جديداً، وهو كذلك، والمرجع الوحيد فيه، كتاب الله تعالى الكريم المجيد، وهو دستور الأمة، القرآن الكريم، ويستطيع كل مؤمن ومؤمنة أن يضيف إلى ما استنبط في هذا الكتاب وله أيضاً أن يصحح، فالمقصد أولاً وأخيراً تزيين حياة المسلمين (عملاً وتعاملاً وسلوكاً وفكراً وقولاً) بما يجعلها هادئة هانئة طيبة، وهو أمر لم يغفله القرآن الكريم، ولكن الكثيرين لا يلتفتون إليه بدقة وهذا الكتاب مذكر.
