مارون بن حنا بن الخوري يوحنا عبّود (1886 - 1962)، كاتب وأديب لبناني كبير.. ولد في عين كفاع (من قرى جبيل).
حياته
في سنواته في المدرسة أبدى ميولا أدبية وتفوق في مجال اللغة العربية كما أصدر في عامه الدراسي الأخير مجلة أدبية أسماها الصاعقة. كان قد بدأ بكتابة القصائد ونشر بعضها في جريدة الروضة. أدخله إلى مدرسة مار يوحنا مارون. التي أمضى فيها أربعة أعوام ولكنه رفض الأستمرار فيها لأن أباه كان يقصد بإلحاقه بها أن يهيأه للحياة الكهنوتية ما رغب عنه مارون ورفضه رفضا قاطعا. بعد ذلك التحق بمدرسة الحكمة حيث أمضى فيها سنتين. وقد وجد مارون في هذه المدرسة الجو المؤاتي لتفتح مواهبه الأدبية كما احتك بعدد من الطلاب المولعين بالشعر أمثلا: رشيد تقي الدين وأحمد تقي الدين وسعيد عقل وغيرهم.
وفاته
توفي مارون عبود عام 1962 عن عمر يناهز السابعة والسبعين.

لم يَعرِفْ عالَمُنا العربيُّ فنَّ المسرحِ إلا متأخرًا على أيدي روَّادٍ عظامٍ درَسوا فنونَهُ وحذَقوا أساليبَهُ قبلَ نقْلِها إلينا. صحيحٌ أنَّ تجاربَهم الأولى كانتْ تحمِلُ بعضَ البساطة، ولكنها كانتْ تجارب أصيلةً ولولاها لَمَا وصلَ مسرحُنا العربيُّ لشأنِهِ المتطوِّرِ الحالي. وقد كانَ «مارون عبود» أحدَ جنودِ المسرحِ المُخلصِين؛ حيثُ ألَّفَ له الكثيرَ مِنَ النصوصِ الرائدةِ في وقتٍ لم يكنِ الكثيرُ مِنَ الأدباءِ يتحمَّسُ لهذا النوعِ الجديدِ مِن الفَن. نتعرَّفُ في هذهِ المَسْرحيةِ على ما أصابَ الشيخَ الكبيرَ «فرنان» من خُطوبٍ مُتعاقِبة؛ فلم يكَدْ يَفيقُ مِن فاجعةِ موتِ ابنَيهِ الشابَّينِ حتى لحِقَتْ بهما زوجتاهما حزنًا، ولم يَبْقَ في قصرِهِ الواسعِ إلا ابنُهُ الفتى «إميل» الذي أخَذَ يَبذلُ كلَّ جهدِهِ ليُواسِيَ قلبَ أبيهِ المَكْلوم. فتُرَى هل ستَرفقُ الأقدارُ بالشيخِ الحزينِ أمْ تُخبِّئُ له المَزِيد؟
