راي برادبري أحد أشهر كتاب الخيال العلمي والفانتازيا والرعب، ولد في عام 1922 وانتقلت عائلته إلى لوس أنجلوس في سنة 1934 في فترة الكساد الكبير، وتوقف عن الذهاب للدراسة بسبب أوضاع عائلته المادية وانغمس في ممارسة الكِتابة منذ صغره. بدأ مسيرته الأدبية بكتابة القصص القصيرة وقد نشرت أول مجموعة له بعنوان " سجلات المريخ" وتلتها مجموعة قصصية أخرى بعنوان " الرجل المرسوم" وتعتبر روايته " فهرنهايت 451 " أشهر أعماله، وأكثرها نجاحًا، وإحدى كلاسيكيات الأدب الحديث.
ألف برادبري ما يقارب 13 رواية وأكثر من 400 قصة قصيرة، وتعد قصته القصيرة " الأحراش "إحدى أهم قصصه القصيرة، حيث تم وضعها ضمن أهم القصص الأمريكية القصيرة للقرن العشرين. تصور القصة أحداث مستقبلية لصراع والدين مع ابنيهما الصغيرين الذي أفسد الترف طباعهما. حيث تعيش الأسرة في منزل متطور، تقوم فيه الآلات بإعداد الطعام وإلباس الصغار والاعتناء بهما والترفيه عنهما، وحين يفرض الأب معاملة قاسية على الأبناء فينعكس غضبهما من خلال غرفة اللعب ثلاثية الأبعاد.
نشرت هذه القصة للمرة الأولى تحت عنوان "عالم صنعه الأطفال" سنة 1950 ثم نشرت في مجموعته القصصية "الرجل المرسوم".
