يبدأ الكتاب، المرتب بتتابع زمني، برسائل بوش إلى والديه في أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية، عندما كان في الثامنة عشرة من عمره، أي عندما كان عسكرياً في ذلك الوقت، وكان أصغر طيار في البحرية. وسوف يطَّلع القرَّاء بعمق على المراحل المهمة من مسيرة بوش المهنية، صناعة النفط، فترتان في الكونغرس، عمله كسفير في الأمم المتحدة، وخدمته مبعوثاً إلى الصين، وتوليه لمنصب إدارة المخابرات المركزية، كما سيطَّلعون بالطبع على خدمته نائباً للرئيس، ثم رئيساً للبلاد. وأخيراً فترة ما بعد الرئاسة. وسيكتشفون أيضاً أنه كان زوجاً، وأباً وأمريكياً مخلصاً. وكتاباته التي تتراوح ما بين رسالة حب زوجه بارباره، ورسالة إلى أمه حول فقدان ابنته روبين بعد إصابتها باللوكيميا، ورسالة إلى أبنائه قبل استقالة نيكسون بأسبوع، وأخرى كتبها لهم عشية بداية "عاصفة الصحراء"، تتميز حقاً بالصراحة، والمرح، والحدة.
ومع متابعة أسرة بوش لمسيرتها كعائلة سياسية كبيرة، فإن هذه الصورة لمؤسسها، غير الدَّعيِّ، مهمة وتأتي في الوقت المناسب. كما أن سماح جورج بوش بنشر معظم هذه المجموعة هو شيء رائع في حد ذاته. فكتاب "مع أطيب التمنيات" لجورج بوش يعطينا صورة نفاذة وحميمة للرئيس الحادي والأربعين للولايات المتحدة.
