"الإحتلال" رواية رومانسية تقترب من الذات الأنثوية، عندما تتملكها "الغيرة" فلا يبقى رفيقاً للمرأة سوى الألم، الذي تحتله الذاكرة خشبة خلاص تتشبث بها المرأة فتغالب الوحدة والأيام المتشابهة.
ذات يوم تعلم بطلة القصة بأن عشيقها السابق –الذي كانت قد غادرته هي، رافضة أن تستمر في العيش معه.... قد اتخذ لنفسه صديقة جديدة. ومن هذا الخبر تبدأ رحلة الآلام؛ فتتولد عندها غيرة قاتلة، تجتاح كل شيء في حياتها يجعلها اسيرة لا تفكر قبل منافستها وعزيمتها التي تؤرقها طيلة لحظات نهارها (وربما ليلها أيضاً). ومن هذا الأرق تكتب "آني إرنو" موتيفات الهوسي والفقدان وعذاب العشق.
وعلى جرى عادتها تلاحق الكاتبة كل تصرفات وعواطف وأحاسيس بطلتها بهدف أن تصل إلى الحقيقة القصوى التي تطمح إليها –إلى تلك اللحظة التي يفقد فيها المرء عقله ومنطقة بشكل مضحك وساخر حيناً، وبشكل تراجيدي حيناً آخر، فتذهب الروائية مع بطلتها إلى العمق إلى الحميمي من دون أية تعقيدات أو التفاتات في التعبير، والتي تفتح بكل قارئ، في ذات الوقت، حقولاً متعددة للقراءة الخاصة والتفسير وربما ساعدت في الخروج من حالة الإحتلال التي تملكت البطلة في بداية العمل ثم ما لبثت أن خرجت منه فيما بعد...
