إن الله تعالى جعل الدنيا دار ممر وامتحان، وجعل فيها الابتلاء سنة من سننه الربانية الجارية ؛ ذلك أن طبيعة الحياة الدنيا، وطبيعة البشر فيها تقتضي ألا يخلو المرء فيها من كوارث تصيبه، وشدائد تحل بساحته ، فكم منا من يُخفق في عمل، ويخيب له أمل، أو يُبتلى بموت حبيب، أو يَمرض له بدن، أو يُفقد منه مالٌ أو ولد، أو يُبتلى في قوة تمسكه بدينه، أو غير ذلك مما تفيض به الحياة الدنيا من ابتلاءات وشدائد وتمحيصات، وكذلك تجد من يبتليه الله تعالي بكثرة المال والأولاد ، ووفرة في الصحة ، فهذا كله ابتلاء واختبار ،، وما من محنة تصيب المؤمن مطلقاً إلا وراءها منحة، وما من شِدة يقع بالمؤمن إلا وراءها شَدة إلى الله، المحنة تنتهي بمنحة، الشِدة تنتهي بشَدة، ذلك لأن هذه الدنيا في الأصل دار ابتلاء لا دار استواء، ومنزل ترح لا منزل فرح، فمن عرفها لم يفرح لرخاء ولم يحزن لشقاء، لأن الرخاء مؤقت، والشقاء مؤقت، قد جعلها الله دار بلوى. يقول الله تعالي ﴿ وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ﴾ ]المؤمنين[
