لقد جمع هذا الكتاب بعضاً من الإضاءات في طريق طلب العلم، فابتدأ بإضاءات في فضل العلم وأهله، ماراً ببعض الإضاءات التربوية التي لا بد منها لطالب العلم، ثم إضاءات على أولى الخطوات في طلب العلم وبداية طريقه. ثم ذكر بعض الإضاءات لطالب العلم من أجل ثباته على الطريق حتى لا تزل قدمه وينحرف عن الجادة ويترك الطلب، ومن ثم عرج على إضاءات حول رفيق دربه وأنيس رحلته (الكتاب) لتبيين قيمته، وللإشعار بأهميته، ولشحذ الهمة للاستزادة من الاطلاع والقراءة، ثم أتبع ذلك بإضاءات حول ورثة الأنبياء، وحمَّال الأمانة وأهل العلم والديانة، وذكر نماذج من حياتهم وسيرهم مع العلم وتحصيله، ثم ذكر إضاءات على أنواع العلوم والفنون من ناحية نفعها ومن ناحية غايتها ووسيلتها، وأهمية التخصص في نوع منها، بعد ذلك ذكر إضاءات على التصنيف والتحقيق وعلو الهمة فيه لمن وصل من العلم ما يؤهله اليه، ومنهجية التأليف وأغراضه، وتنبيهات ومحاذير تتعلق بالتحقيق وغيرها مما يتعلق بهذا الشأن. ثم سلط الكتاب إضاءاته على التعليم وآداب المعلم التي ينبغي له أن يتحلى بها ويتنبه لها، وبيان مهمات التعليم وغاياته، ليختم الكتاب بتسليط الضوء على نهايات الطريق - وإن لم يكن له نهاية - وبعض التنبيهات لمن بلغ فيه العلماء ووصل في طريقه الى مدارك الفضلاء.
