فإن "علم الفلك" حيث الإسم يعني "علم"، ليس علماً بالمفهوم الضيّق للكلمة، بل هو عالم قائم بذاته من المعارف المتداخلة والمتشعبة، وقد ولدت هذه المعارف من عقلية علمية مختلفة عمّا هي عليه العقلية العلمية المعاصرة، عقلية تنطلق من الإيمان بوحدانية الخالق وجدلية العلاقة فيما بين المخلوقات.
فالعقلية التي قام عليها علم الفلك هي عقلية إيمان بالقدرة المطلقة لله تعالى الواحد الأحد خالق الخلق ومكوّن المكوّنات ومحرّك الأفلاك ومقرّر الأحداث ومقدّر الأقدار وموجب الأسباب.
