يقول المؤلف في مقدمته: "إن قصة تضحية الامام الحسين عليه السلام والجزاء العظيم الذي وهيه الله إليه تشبه قصة ذلك السلطان الذي تاه الطريق وفقد اصحابه في سفرة من سفراته، واضطرّ للجوء الى إمرأة عجوز تسكن مع ابن لها في خيمة بالية... عندها قام الولد بأمر من أمه بتكريم هذا السلطان الذي أوشك على الموت من شدة الجوع والعطش وذبح آخر ما عندهما من ذخيرة... عنزة صغيرة كانا يشربان لبنها ثم ذبحاها وقدّماها من دون منة وأذى إلى السلطان ليسد رمقه وينجو من الموت الحتمي وبعدها أوصلاه إلى الطريق الذي يهتدي به ليصل إلى مملكته وبلاطه، وبعد أيام وبطلب من السلطان عند رحيله من خيمة العجوز والولد، ذهب الولد إلى إلى بلاط السلطام فقام تجليلاً وتكريماً له ورفع تاجه من راسه ووضعه على رأس الولد ووهب له كل ما يملك وقال للحاضرين في لاطه: إن هذا الشاب الشهم قدّم كل ما يملك في سبيل نجاتي من الموت الحتمي وأنا الآن أهب له كل ما أملك جزاءً لما وهب.
واما المضامين المتفاوتة في الأحاديث الواردة لثواب زيارة الإمام الحسين عليه السلام فهي ترتبط بدرجة الغخلاص والتوجه ودرجات المعرفة المتفاوتة عند الزائرين وكذلك ترتبط بطريقة أداء الزيارة وكيفياتها واختلاف أوقاتها وسائر متعلقاتها.
ويمكن تلخيص هذا التحليل في أن درجات الثواب والأجر المختلفة والمتفاوتة في مضامين الأحاديث ترتبط باختلاف درجات الإخلاص وكيفية الزيارة وأوقاتها المختلفة."
