"قالت أمى إن أبي يرقد هنا.
لم يعد يفصلني عن المبنى إلا عبور الشارع، ما أن لمست قدمي الأرض حتى داهمتني همة مفاجئة لعبور البوابة. كانت بعض أشجار قليلة تنحني فوق حديدها وتكون معبرًا للسيارات والناس، تبدو المساحات المظللة مضيئة بشكل ما، الشمس تتخلل الأغصان والأوراق، تصنع نوافذ صغيرة يرقط ضوؤها الطريق الأسفلتي تحت قدمي. جئت إلى هنا وكلي حيوية وأمل في التعرف على أبي، قالت أمي أيضًا إنه شخص في الخمسين ويدعى سعيد إبراهيم.
بالأمس، كانت أمي تحتضر، راحت فيما يشبه الغيبوبة، اللحظات التي تسبق الموت ليس من الضروري أن تكون هامة، عند توهان العينين وارتجافة البدن، تخرج الحروف مبتورة لا تفضى إلى كلمات، ولا يفهم منها قصد، لكن على العكس من ذلك كانت أمي؛ تكلمت كلامًا مكتملًا ومفهومًا، بل واسترسلت في سرد الحكايات واحدة تلو الأخرى، حتى ظننت أنها أبدًا لن تموت، استحالت في هذا الوضع لمادة خام يمكنها وحدها أن تغزل العالم في ثوب جديد.
غابت أمي في وجد من الصعب أن تصفه الكلمات، كانت كأنها تصطاد كائنات من أعماق محيط، ذهبت لمسافات بعيدة لم يرتدها أحد من قبل، طالت الفترة الزمنية بين الغرغرة وما اعتقدت بأنه طلوع الروح، تباطأ الكيان الشفاف عديم الوزن حتى يعطي فريسته الفرصة كاملة لتقول ما تريد، وأن تعترف بما حدث بالفعل، فلا وقت لديها لتصويب الأخطاء فيما التقطته آذاننا، كانت في وضع يصعب فيه الكذب، لا ترانا بشكل كامل، أنا وجدتي، ربما كنا بالنسبة لها أشباحًا تتجول حولها بلا صفة، ولا أبعاد، فقط كانت منشغلة بما تود أن تنقله إلينا بأقصى سرعة ممكنة".
