دراسة في الأساطير و الأديان الشرقية القديمة نشر كتاب الغصن الذهبي في عدة مجلدات لأول مرة سنة 1900 و يدعى المجلد الرابع منه "أدونيس،آتيس،اوزيرس" وكتابنا هذا هو الجزء الأول منه وهو كتاب له أهمية خاصة فهو يعالج فكرة انتجتها تربة بلادنا و يعود بالكثير من أساطير الاغريق التي تكوّن جزءاً من الفكر الغربي و الحضارة الأوروبية إلى معتقدات و أديان انبثقت منه هذه الأرض والكتاب بعرضه الممتع للمعتقدات و العادات التي كان الناس قديماً يمارسونها في مراسيم الخصب و طقوس العبادة و يفسر الكثير منها حتى اليوم،وقد كان هذا الجزء فضلاً عن خطورته الأنثروبولوجية الظاهرة أثر عميق في الإبداع الأدبي في أوروبا في السنين الخمسين الأخيرة بما هيأة من ثروة رمزية و أسطورية
