ومنهم من انتقد فصصه، فقد وجدوا أسلوبها متصنعاً، وحوارها مملاً بعيداً عن اللغة التي يتكلمها الناس، وأحداثها تغلب عليها الصيغة الملودرامية. ووجدوا أنه يعمد في معظم الأحيان إلى الوصف والسرد، وأنه لا يفهم من الناس إلا المرضى وغير الأسوياء، ولهذا كانت موضوعاته محدودة، لا تنوع فيها.
وعلى الرغم مما يؤخذ عليه، كان"بو" قليل النظراء في عصره، ومن أكثر كتابة أصالة، ممتاز المواهب، متعدد الجوانب، عظيم التأثير.
