قيل عنه: إنه اغرب شخصية في تاريخ اميركا الأدبي واعظمها حزناً، إنه "إدغا –آلان بو" (1809- 1849) شاعر وقاص تشتم في شعره ونثره رائحة القبور، ولد لممثلين متجولين، ولم تمض سنواته الثلاثة الأولى حتى كان والده دافيد بو قد هجر أسرته وكانت أمه قد ماتت معدمة بالسل، ليؤخذ الطفل ويعيش مع تاجر يسمى آلان بقية طفولته.
يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن ادغار آلان بو حياته، أدبه، وقصصه الخارقة، وكتاباته الهاذية إلى "هيلانة وآني وأولالى ولينور، وإلى موريلا وأنابيل لي، كل الأسماء الجميلة التي حملها بو إلى القبر، وأودعها في الوقت ذاته قالب "الخلق الإيقاعي الجميل،الذي هو الشعر".
يضم الكتاب منتجات هي ترجمات للشاعر العظيم "بو" حاول المترجم "كميل قيصر داغر" كما يقول أن يلتزم بحرفيتها وهذا ما التزم به حتى في نقله لقصيدة (الغراب) وتقديمها للقارئ العربي مقترنة بإيقاع الوزن، محاولاً قدر الإمكان ألا يخيب تحديد إدغار بو للشعر على أنه "الخلق الإبداعي للحمال".
وإذا أردنا التعرف على شاعرية بو أكثر نقرأ له قصيدته في هيلانة عندما كان في الخامسة عشرة من عمره يقول: إيه هيلانة، يبدو جمالك لي، شبيهاً بمراكب الزمن الغابر النيسية تلك، التي كانت تحمل بلطف، على البحر المعطر، المسافر المتعب والمنكسر، نحو شواطئ ميلاده...".
من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: قباب السماء تسحقني، بين الوحوش المفترسة، الشعر كشغف، قصص خارقة، مقاطع لهيلانة، القصر المسكون، أرض الحلم... الخ.
