سوزان شاندا: وُلِدَتْ في مدينة جيلدروب بهولندا، ونشأت في مدينة برن السويسرية، حيث أتمَّت عام ١٩٨٩م دراسة علوم اللغة الألمانية وآدابها إلى جانب دراسة الفلسفة. وقد انشغلت في عملها بالصحافة طيلة ١٥ عامًا بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط. وأثناء زياراتها المتعددة والمطوَّلة إلى مصر، عملت مترجمة ومذيعة في محطة راديو القاهرة، كما أدارت حلقات نقاش مع أدباء مصريين بصفتها خبيرة بالساحة الأدبية. وهي تكتب حاليًّا في العديد من الصحف كما تعمل في الإذاعة السويسرية.

في هذا الكتاب، تُوضِّح سوزان شاندا كيف ساهم الأدبُ المصريُّ في تهيئة الناس للثورة، وكيف أن الكُتَّاب والأدباء المصريين قد مهَّدوا السبيل لها منذ سنوات؛ ففي ظل وضع سياسي متأزِّم، تجاوزوا الخطوط الحمراء كافة، وكشفوا أَوْجُهَ النفاق والفساد المستشري في البلاد، بل وسخروا من ضحالة النظام الحاكم. وكانت رواية علاء الأسواني الأكثر بيعًا «عمارة يعقوبيان»، التي صدرت عام ٢٠٠٢، هي التي أطلقت الشرارة. فقراءة الروايات — التي كانت حتى ذلك الحين حِكرًا على النخبة المثقفة — صارت السبيل الممتع للتأمل الذاتي لدى القارئ العادي. وأصبحت الكتب الجديدة تُناقَش على شبكات التواصل الاجتماعي وفي الصحف المستقلة والمقاهي. وقد ألهبت النقاشاتُ العامَّةُ النَّقدَ الموجَّه إلى النظام، وساعدت على التمهيد لإسقاطه. ومنذ سنوات، خلق الكُتَّاب في مؤلَّفاتهم — وكأنهم أجهزة استشعار لنبض الشارع المصري — أجواءً مشحونة بسخط ملموس.
