السعادة شعور ممتد بالطمأنينة والرضا والفرح، ليست ضحك ساعة، ولا لذة ليلة. كلٌ يطلبها، ويسعى لبلوغها، ويرجو الفوز بها. وكلٌ له مسلكٌ لتحقيق سعادته يتوافق مع معتقده، وطباعه، وحظوظه، وتجاربه. فوسيلة المؤمن للسعادة ليست كوسيلة الملحد، وما يُسعِدُ هذا لا يسعد الآخر. وكذلك البخيل والكريم، والجبان والشجاع، والمنعزل والاجتماعي، فكلٌ له سبيله ووسيلته المناسبة لمعتقده وطبعه لتحقيق سعادته.
وهذا كتابٌ مختصر، سُمِّي باسم فصل من فصوله، موضوعه فهمُ السعادة، لأنَّ فهم الشيء هو السبيل الأمثل لحسن معالجته، وبلوغ المراد منه. رُتبت فصوله لفهم السعادة، وسُبل الوصول إليها، وحُسن إدارتها، وعلاقة سعادة الدنيا بسعادة الآخرة، وفهم العلاقة بين السعادة وأهم المؤثرات الفكرية والنفسية والاجتماعية. كالعلاقة بينها والدين، وهل الدين ضروري لتحقيقها في الدنيا ؟ والعلاقة بينها والعقل، وهل الذكي أقرب للسعادة أم هو أبعد ؟ والعلاقة بينها والناس، وهل هي في مخالطتهم أم في اعتزالهم ؟ وغيرها من المسائل. موضوع ضروري مهم عُرض بدليل ومنطق وبيان.
