تعتبر إدارة الابتكار والإبداع حدث الساعة, لذا ينظر إليها على أنها التطبيق العملي للاختراعات, وهي تتسم بأنها صيغة للأفكار الجديدة. ومن هذا المنطلق تعتبر النشاطات الإبتكارية والإبداعية عنصراً أساسيا ومهما اختلفت أنواع المنظمات, سواء أكانت صناعية أم خدمية. وتصبح فيه قدرة المنظمة على توليد الأفكار الجديدة والعمل بها عاملاً حاسماً في الوصول إلى قمم النجاح والتقدم. وكما تحرص المنظمات على أموالها وضمان استمراريتها وبنائها, يجب عليها أن تولي النشاطات الإبتكارية والإبداعية الاهتمام الكافي, ذلك لأن هذه النشاطات تشكل لبنة هامة وأساسية إذا ما أريد لها أن تحقق الأهداف المبتغاة. والابتكار والإبداع ميزة يتمتع بها ذروة البشر لتثبت وجودها وانفتاحها الحضاري وحضورها المميز في كل زمان ومكان. وقد قيل فيما مضى أن أفكر إذاً أنا موجود وهذا الوجود إن لم يكن مميزاً ويوصل إلى القمة فبئسه من وجود ومن يريد أن يتربع على عرش القمة والمجد, عليه أن يخلق الجديد المبتكر, أو أن يحتضن المبتكرين والمبدعين فأنى للفرد أو المنظمة أن توسع لنفسها مكاناً أو أن تكون رائدة في عصر التكنولوجيا وثورة المعلوماتية التي تسير بسرعة البرق من دون الإبداع والابتكار.
