احتل الرسم في السنين الأخيرة مكانة مرموقة بين الأساليب الإسقاطية لدراسة الشخصية وقد تعددت أنواع وصور اختبارات الرسم وأساليبه ويعتبر اختبار رسم المنزل والشجرة والشخص لمؤلفه جون.ن.باك في مقدمة هذه الأساليب التي يشاع استخدامها في المجال الإكلينيكي. وقد استغرق الباحث أكثر من خمس سنوات لجمع البيانات اللازمة لإعداد مواد وأدوات هذا الاختبار ولتقنينه محليا ولاستخلاص دلالاته الإكلينيكية. ويهدف هذا الدليل إلى إمداد الإخصائي النفسي الذي يطبق الاختبار بالتعليمات اللازمة في هذا التطبيق، وبأسس تحليلية كميا وكيفيا، ثم يناقش الأسس النظرية للاختبار، ويحدد دوره في التشخيص وفي التنبؤ الإكلينيكي وذلك بقصد توحيد طريقة تطبيق الاختبار وعرض الأسس والفرضيات التي بني عليها تمهيدًا لتقديم خطة البحث التي تهدف إلى الدراسة الشاملة للاختبار والتي تتخذ من هذه الأسس والفرضيات قاعدة لها.
