تُعدّ الرسائل الصفدية أنموذجاً للنثر الفني في عصر المماليك، وهي لم تخلُ من بعض الأشعار الجيدة، من قوله أو من منقوله، فهكانت بذلك مصدراً يوثّق تلك المادة الأدبية، ويُطلعنا على نُظمٍ إدارية مهمة في عصر الكاتب.
وقد حوى هذا الكتاب ـ لأحد أكابر تلامذة صلاح الدين الصّفدي ـ بعضَ ما لم يُنشر للشيخ من قبل مما كتبه من رسائلَ كانت في التقاليد والتواقيع، والأجوبة الملوكية، والرسائل الإخوانية؛ مما يتّسم بالجودة في التأليف؛ كمعتاد أسلوب الصفدي في إشراق العبارة، والمزاوجة بين الشعر والنثر. وقد جاء هذا العمل في مقدمة تتضمن الحديث عن أهمية المخطوط، وأسباب اختياره، وخطة البحث، وقسمين: دراسيّ؛ أتى في تمهيد قدّم نبذة عن سيرة الصفدي، ثم فصل أولُ في التعريف بتلميذه الموصلي، وثانٍ في دراسة الكتاب، تلا ذلك القسمُ الثاني الذي يضمّ النصّ المحقق، ثم اختتم الكتاب بطائفة من الفهارس.
