إلا أن مؤلف هذه الرواية يجسد رؤيته في بيئة محددة تاريخياً، موقعاً جغرافياً ونظاماً سياسياً، هي زيمبابوي، وفي أسرة عادية من أسر هذا البلد.
فالأفكار تتحول إلى شخوص والعواطف المتبادلة إلى علائق إجتماعية فثمة أناس من لحم ودم يتحركون ويصارعون ثم يسقطون الواحد تلو الآخر.
تتمحور روايتنا حول طفل من أطفال الأسرة يتميز بشخصيته القوية في المدرسة كما في المجتمع في الفهم كما في الشؤون العملية، فهو مرشح لأن يكون واحداً من الذين يسدد لهم الإستعمار ضرباته الأقصى، فأما أن يذعنوا ويمشوا في ركابه وأما أن يسحقهم.
هذا الصراع الذي لا ينتهي بين الأفريقي والمستعمر هو الذي تقدمه لنا رواية ابن الأرض بشكل يجعلك تعيش مع أرض يصارعها الأفريقي ليعيش ويصارع من أجلها ففيها روحه وجسده.
وتلك مأساة الإنسان في نهاية هذا العصر.
