في العام ١٢٤٨م انطلقت الحملة السابعة من الحملات الصليبية متوجهةً نحو مصر، وتحديدًا دمياط، بقيادة لويس التاسع ملك فرنسا، وذلك في عهد السلطان الصالح نجم الدين أيوب، الذي توفي أثناء الغزو الصليبي، ونجحت الحملة في بدايتها في الاستيلاء على دمياط، فحاولت الاتجاه نحو القاهرة، إلا أنها لقيت مواجهة شرسة من المسلمين في المنصورة، أدت إلى هزيمتهم، وأسر قائدهم لويس التاسع، ويصوِّر إبراهيم رمزي من خلال هذا العمل هذه الوقائع التاريخية في شكل مسرحي درامي مكون من أربعة فصول، وذلك بأسلوب شيق ومتميز.
