تقع أحداث الرواية بين فلسطين ، ألمانيا والعراق لنتعرف على قصص كثير من اليهود الذين عاشوا خلال الفترة منذ عام 1913 حتى خمسينات القرن الماضي وهي قصص مستوحاة من شخصيات حقيقية عاشوا في هذه الدول قبل قيام إسرائيل ومروا بكل الوقائع المعروفة والموثقة في التاريخ التي وردت في الرواية
وفي نهاية الرواية قائمة بالمراجع التي استندت إليها الكاتبة لتوثيق الأحداث
الرواية تتناول النشأة التاريخية لإسرائيل حيث تعرض من خلال ثلاثة فصول كيف تطور الوجود اليهودي على أرض فلسطين وبالتحديد مدينة يافا وذلك على مدار ثلاثة أجيال كاملة منذ عام 1913 وحتى عام 1952.
