Instead of a single “grand theory,” translation studies encompass a range of theoretical frameworks, each with its own strengths and limitations.
First, there are the linguistic theories, which are the oldest kind of translation theories as they primarily focus on the linguistic aspects of translation like equivalence and grammatical structures.
Regarding the linguistic theory of translation, there is a widespread misconception held by many people that considers the linguistic aspect as the least serious among others, though this is not true by all means, particularly in relation to the process of translating the meanings of the Ever-Honorable Qur’an. For example, there are some minute differences in the meanings of the Arabic words in the Ever-Honorable Qur’an and any translator must bear in mind these differences when translating Holy Qur’anic Verses. For instance, when translating the Holy Qur’anic Verse “لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها لها ما كسبت وعليها ما اكتسبت" which is verse 286 of Surat Al-Baqarah or “The Cow.”
