ولد بدر الديب (بدر الديب حب الله الديب) العام 1926 بجزيرة بدران بالقاهرة، وتخرج في قسم الفلسفة كلية الآداب جامعة القاهرة العام 1946، ودرس لمدة عام علم الجمال في جامعة السوربون علي يد ايتيين سوريو العام 1948، ودرس في جامعة كولومبيا مدرسة المكتبات، وحصل على درجة الماجستير في علوم المكتبات 1953، ودرجة مهنية للتأهيل للدكتوراه في علوم المكتبات يناير 1960، وقد تولى العديد من المواقع الثقافية المهمة مصري ولد بدر الديب (بدر الديب حب الله الديب) العام 1926 بجزيرة بدران بالقاهرة، وتخرج في قسم الفلسفة كلية الآداب جامعة القاهرة العام 1946، ودرس لمدة عام علم الجمال في جامعة السوربون علي يد ايتيين سوريو العام 1948، ودرس في جامعة كولومبيا مدرسة المكتبات، وحصل على درجة الماجستير في علوم المكتبات 1953، ودرجة مهنية للتأهيل للدكتوراه في علوم المكتبات يناير 1960، وقد تولى العديد من المواقع الثقافية المهمة مصرياً وعربياً ودولياً منها خبير اليونسكو في التوثيق التربوي وخبير للأمم المتحدة، وأستاذ غير متفرغ لتدريس تاريخ المسرح والنقد المسرحي بمعهد الفنون المسرحية، ورأس تحرير جريدة المساء القاهرية بين عامي 1967 و1986، أما دراساته وكتاباته الإبداعية وترجماته وتحقيقاته التراثية فهي كثيرة ومتعددة، فمن أعماله الروائية (أوراق زمردة أيوب) و(حديث شخصي) و(إجازة تفرغ) و(إعادة حكاية حاسب كريم الدين وملكة الحيات)، وفي الشعر له (حرف ال ح) و(إعادة حرف ال ح)، وفي المسرح له (الدم والانفصال) و(مرجريت امرأة غريبة)، وفي الترجمة له (الموت والوجود) لجيمس ب .كارس، و(تاريخ علم الجمال) لجلبرت وكون، وفي الدراسات له ثلاثة مجلدات من المقالات النقدية والدراسات المنشورة في الجرائد والمجلات المتخصصة، وله ترجمات لمسرحيات لشكسبير ووليم سارويان وتشكوف وكوفمان، هذا فضلاً عن تحقيقاته التراثية مثل (طبقات بن سعد) و(خطط المقريزي) و(رحلة أبي جبير).

كوميديا الأخطاء أولى مسرحيات شكسبير الهازلة. يرجح أنها مثلت شتاء سنة 1592 ـ 1593 وفى المسرحية إشارة إلى حروب ولاية العهد في فرنسا بين سنة 1589 وسنة 1594.
