This manual was prompted by a need widely percieved in all translation and interpreting teaching classes, where translation instructors call on students to bring passages to classes for translation learning/teaching purposes, for a handbook that makes available for translation instructors a varied and an up to date collection of texts to help them in their work.
The selection for texts for inclusion in this manual is based on variation of vocabulary, levels of difficulty, and variation of genres and themes. The texts are carefully selected for high interest and relevance to students' life and to equip them with sufficient background information, deemed necessary for their success in their study and life.
The lexical items provided at the end of some selected Arabic English passages are meant only to guide the students to their general meaning and minimize the use of the dictionary. Thus, they are not intended to be taken as absolute equivalents.
