L'Institut Dominicain d'Etudes Orientales du Caire publie depuis 1954 une oeuvre collective qui constitue aujourd'hui, sous le titre MELANGES et le sigle MIDEO, une serie de volumes numerotes de 1 a 12, de 450 pages en moyenne. Chaque volume comprend: d'une part des articles de fond et desnotes et documents portant principalement sur les idees, doctrines, manieres de penser du monde arabe; et d'autre part une chronique reguliere de l'activite culturelle de l'Egypte contemporaine, incluant une analyse de livres importants parus en Egypte.
cette Revue, chaleureusement accueillie dans les milieux scientifiques orientaliste, doit son caractere propre a trois traits particuliers.
En premier lieu, MIDEO est l'oeuvre et l'expression d'une equipe comosee originellement de chercheurs dominicains interesses fondamentalement par l'aspect philosophique et religieux de leur domaine d'investigations, et dont l'etude tend a une contribution special quant a l'histoire de la pensee dans le monde arabe, considere dans son pass et jusque dans son present.
En second lieu, cette equipe poursuit ses recherches en Egypte; aussi porte-t-elle naturelement un interet privilegie, encore que non exclusif, aux problemes historiques, culturels et doctrinaux de l'Egypte ancienne et moderne, en demeurant en etroite et constante collaboration avec les savants egyptiens.
Enfin, sans jamais rien rabattre des exigences techniques de l'orientalisme, MIDEO a le souci d'etre accessible aux non-arabisants desireux soit de s'informer des paralleles arabes de leur connaissance de la pensee musulmane, soit de rester en contact avec le mouvement culturel en Egypte.
