The author's name is taken from the Privilege du Roy. With a manuscript letter to Adrien Baillet, signed Nicole, and other manuscript material inserted before the Table des Matieres of the second part
Pasted on the front pastedown is a printed label "Bibliotheca Lamoniana V" to which "10" is added in an 18th or 19th-century hand. On the front free endpaper is written a press-mark "2K13" and a note in an 18th or 19th-century hand recording the manuscript items tipped in between pages 558 and 559. These are: an undated thank you letter of Pierre Nicole to the author (F1), extracts of two unidentified letters 1691 (F3), a poem "Tummulus" consisting of 16 lines of Latin elegies in honour of Descartes, by Bernardus Lamy, "Oratorie Sacerdos" (F6), and an untitled poem in 29 Latin hexameter in honour of Descartes in an 18th-century hand.
