إن العقيد معمر القذافي، الرئيس الليبي السابق، نسجت حوله أساطير اشتبكت مع الحقائق التي رويت عنه، كما تضمنت حياته حقائق أقرب إلى الأساطير، موضحا: "خلافا لملوك ورؤساء العرب، وشيوخ وأمراء دول الخليج الذين يعتبرون القصور جزءا لا يتجزأ من عاداتهم في أثناء استقبال رؤساء الدول والحكومات، يكره الزعيم القذافي حياة البذخ والترف خيمة القذافي البدوية على النظام الحديث، بمعنى أنها تحمل مواصفات الخيمة المعروفة لدى البدو الرحل الذين يتتبعون مناطق الرعي، ولكنها تحتوي على مواصفات حديثة وتكنولوجيا اتصالات وأجهزة تكييف، ولكنها بالطبع خالية من الأسِرة، ومعدة للجلوس على الأرض، ولها أعمدة معدنية تحملها وتدعمها، كما أنها ملونة بألوان مبهجة قاتمة
