رواية "مذكرات محكوم عليه بالإعدام" للروائى "فيكتور هوجو" تدور أحداثها حول رجل محكوم عليه بالإعدام ، فيقرر أن يكتب مذكراته ويومياته بانتظار تنفيذ الحكم ، ويجسد "هوجو" مشاعر وأحاسيس بطل هذه الرواية وهو ينتظر حكم الإعدام ، ويبدأ الكاتب فى الدفاع عن كل المظلومين فى السجن من وجهة نظر إنسانية بحته ، وأجمل ما فى هذه الرواية أن "فيكتور هوجو" يذكر على لسان بطل الرواية المحكوم عليه بالإعدام أن هذه الرواية لن تكتمل وأنها ستكون ناقصة لأنه لن يتمكن من كتابة شعوره بعد تنفيذ حكم الإعدام..
