"أميركا دخلت إلى العراق. الحرب قائمة. صدّام متوارٍ يدير العمليات من الكواليس. لكنه سيظهر فجأة ذات منتصف ليل في عيادة طبيب أسنان بسبب وجع في ضرسه، وسيشاهد من النافذة المطلّة على ساحة الفردوس انهيار تمثاله وحكمه. ولكن، قبل أن يغادر تلك العيادة، سيترك للطبيب ورقة شكر ممهورة باسمه ستكلّف الطبيب غاليًا في معتقلات الأميركان. رواية مكسور شيقة، تتجاوز سرد الوقائع لتغوص في ديناميات السياسة والقوى المتحكمة على أرض العراق، رجوعًا إلى جذور العائلات وصراعات المنطقة، من خلال بحثه في أوراق جده الذي شارك في الجيش العثماني، عملَ على تزويد البلدان العربية بالسلاح اللازم للمعركة المصيرية مع الاستعمار، أنشأ علاقات مع القيادة النازية آنذاك، ثم اضطلع في بيع أراضٍ للوكالة اليهودية في فلسطين... يتقفى الكاتب أثر جده في مسيرته المتضاربة من خلال أوراقه التي تركها، على ضوء مستجدات المنطقة المشتعلة، وتطورات مصيره الشخصي الذي سيكون قاتمًا لا محالة على خلفية كل هذا. جيلٌ ضائع بأحلام ضائعة يسلّم بلادًا ضائعة لجيل جديد ضائع. رواية ثرية على المستوى التاريخي والسياسي، وممتعة على المستوى الشخصي لقصة بطلها."
