الحجامة هي طريقة تمارس من قديم الزمان منذ عهد الفراعنة وكانو يستخدمون قرون الخراف بعد تنعيم حوافها وكان الشفط عن طريق الفم وكانت هذه هي طرق العلاج في وقتها ثم اتي الاحتلال اليوناني الي مصر وشاهد اليونانيون طريقة الحجامة وقتها فكر اليونانيون ان تتم هذه الطريقة بالسبل العلمية وتم استنباط الطب الحديث من فكرة الحجامة وهي بدلا من اخراج الاخلاط بالجراحة العشوائية بدئو باستخدام الاسبرينات كي تتم اذابة الاخلاط او طردها من الجسم عن طريق الكليتين وهذا كان في عام 500 قبل الميلاد
