تنبع أهمية هذا الكتاب من أنه الأول الذي تصدى لكتابة تاريخ مدينة تضرب بجذورها إلى ما قبل الألف التاسع قبل الميلاد. كما أكدت الأبحاث والوثائق التاريخية وجود مدافن دولمن فيها. كما تفخر نوى بأنها من بين أقدم المدن المأهولة عبر التاريخ حتى وقتنا الحاضر.
کانت نوى من أوائل المدن التي اعتنقت المسيحية خارج فلسطين، لأنها كانت من المحطات الأولى للمبشرين بالديانة المسيحية بسبب موقعها الجغرافي بين فلسطين ودمشق. وشهدت الجابية وهي من تبعية نوى أحداثاً مهمة في التاريخ الإسلامي، إذ يكفيها شرفاً أن الفاروق عمر بن الخطاب اجتمع فيها بكبار قادة الجيوش الإسلامية وخطط معهم لانطلاق الفتوحات الإسلامية نحو مصر وأفريقيا وكافة بلاد الشام. وفي الجابية وضع عمرين الخطاب أسس الدولة الإسلامية المنظمة وأسلوب إدارتها . وليس أدل على أهمية الجابية وحضورها من تسمية أحد أبواب دمشق باسمها، ألا وهو باب الجابية. كما شهدت الجابية ولادة أول مشفى إسلامي متنقل في عهد عمر بن الخطاب كما يذكر لنوى أنه ولد وترعرع وتربى فيها الشيخ الجليل والعلامة الكبير محي الدين النووي.
إن ما سبق ذكره ليس ضرباً من الخيال أو مغالاة في حب مدينة، بل هو حقائق تاريخية اجتهد مؤلف الكتاب الأستاذ نضال شرف في جمعها والتحقق منها وإظهارها. ويكفي لمعرفة الجهد الذي بذله أن نعلم أن عمله هذا استغرق أكثر من خمسة عشر عاماً.
