دأب علماء الإِسلام على التّفنن في تصنيف الكتب الشرعية، ما بين مطوّلاتٍ تُشرَحُ فيها دقائق المسائل إلى متونٍ مختصرة تساعد المبتدئين على الولوج في تلكم الفنون. ولم يخلُ علمُ العقيدة الإسلامية من متون لطيفة نُظمَت قصائدَ شعريةً يحفظها الصغار، ثم يفقهونها عند اشتدادِ عُودهِم، فتَحفظ لهم عقائدَهم من الزّيغ صغاراً وكباراً.
ومن المتون النافعة في هذا الباب ما نظمه العلامة أبي الفضل محمد ابن الشِّحْنة الحلبي الحنفي، المتوفي سنةَ 890هـ، إذ نظم قصيدةً رائقةً جَمَعَ فيها بين متن العقائد للعلامة النسفي ومتن بَدء الأمالي للعلامة الأوشي. ثم جاء العلامة أحمد بن محمّد الحموي صاحب "غمز عيون البصائر" فأفرغ خبرتَه العلميّة أصولًا وفقهًا ولغةً في شرح تلك القصيدة، فجاء شرحهُ حاويًا لأمهات مسائل العقيدة، بأسلوب سهل، مع مناقشات قيمة لعددٍ من موضوعات هذا الفنّ. وها هو الشرح يُحقَّق ويُنشَر لأول مرة، محلّىً بتحقيقات تستكمل فوائده، وتشرح مغلقاته.
