لا شكّ أن الفتوى هي من أجلّ الأعمال التي يمارسُها العالِم؛ لذا كان لها وللمفتي مكانة مرموقة في الشريعة الإسلامية، وكانت فتاوى العلماء محل الاهتمام بتدوينها وجمعها، لما تحويه من إجابات فقهية وتوضيحات شرعية لشؤون المكلفين.
ومن الفتاوى المهمة في عصرنا الحديث فتاوى العلّامة الشيخ عبد الكريم الدبان رحمه الله تعالى، التي تمتاز بالسهولة والتبسيط ومعالجة أصعب المشكلات بطرائق سهلة ممتعة، مع عرض الأدلة ومناقشتها وتبيين الأقوال في المسائل والعزو إلى مظانّها، والحرص على موافقة ما ذهب إليه جمهور فقهاء الإسلام واجتناب شواذّ الفتاوى، دون الاقتصار على مذهب معيَّن عند الفتوى، رعايةً لحاجات الناس واختلاف أحوالهم.
وقد تناولت هذه الفتاوى الإجابة عن مسائل ثقافية واجتماعية وعلمية صِرفة أحيانًا، وفي ذلك دلالة على التحصيل الموسوعي للشيخ العلّامة الدبان ووعيه بأحوال عصره ومعارفه. وبعض فتاواه تُعَدّ بحدّ ذاتها بحوثًا جامعًا في موضوعاتها. وبالجملة فهي فتاوى غزيرة النفع كبيرة الفائدة، نافعةٌ للمفتين ولطلبة العلم بل ولعموم المثقفين.
وقد اعتنى بتحقيقها أحد تلامذة العلّامة الدبان المخلصين، وهو فضيلة الأستاذ الشيخ طه بن محمد القيسي، حفظه الله ونفع به.
