هو العلامة برهان الدين قاضي قضاة المالكيّة، أبو الأمداد، أبو اسحاق، إبراهيم بن حسن بن علي بن عبد القدّوس، الشّهير باللَّقَّاني، نسبته إلى (لقانة) من البحيرة بمصر. وقد حلاه العلماء بقولهم: خاتمةُ المُحَقِّقِّين، وسيّد الفقهاء والمتكلمين، إمام الأئمة، ومُوضِّح المُشكِلات المُدَلْهَمَة، عالم مصر وإمامها، أحد الاعلام المشار إليهم بسعة الأطلاع في علم الحديث والدراية والتبحر في الكلام والفقه، وكان إليه المرجع في المشكلات والفتاوى في وقته بالقاهرة وكان قويّ النفس، عظيم الهيبة، تخضع له الدّولة، ويقبلون شفاعته، وهو منقطع عن التردُّد إلى الناس، يصرف وقته في الدَّرس والأفادة، وله نسبة هو وقبيلته إلى الشّرف والسّيادة، لكنه لا يظهره تواضعا منه، وكان جامعا بين الشريعة والحقيقة، وله كرامات خارقة ومزايا باهرة، أخذ عنه العلم و طريقَ التربيةِ والتّصوفِ خلقٌ كثير.
