إن الهدف من هذا الكتاب هو توضيح من خلال هذه الصورهو التأكيد على محاولة إعادة صياغة الذاكرة والتذكير والتذكر، وإعطاء نحن الجيل االثالت من النكبة حقه من التاريخ، هذا الجيل الذي لم يعيش في داخل مدينه حيفا، محتاراً بين حضوره وغيابه ودعوة الأجيال القادمة لأخذ دورها قدر المستطاع بعدما تذوّت االصور وتستنطق من يحمل هذه الذاكرة. فالأجيال القادمة لها الحق في مساءلتنا والإلحاح في ذلك كما كنا نريد ان نثقل كاهل جيلنا الفائت بالتساؤلات.
أضع امامكم في كل مكان وفي كل زمان مقدمة ربما لن تجذب البعض، لكني متأكد انها ستؤلم البعض وتدخل ذات ذاته حتى النخاع وخاصة اذا كان ينتمي بهذا الشكل او ذاك لمدينة حيفا.
في هذه الصور، لابد من محاولت حصر الذاكرة في مدينة حيفا. هذه المدينة التي إنُتكِبت في نيسان عام ١٩٤٨ لا يمكن إلا أن تكون نموذجا خاصا وعاما لكل ملابسات القضية.هذه النكبة بعينها و خاصة ما هو مألوف والخروج قليلا عن البكاء لكي نركز على ما هو جوهري محاولين بذلك التصدي للتغيرات في معالم وشوارع وأحياء والمواقع ذاتها.
هذه الضحية المنكوبة لها كامل الحق في كتابة تاريخها، وإذا لم تفعل ذلك، فهي ستجرم بحق جيلها وبحق الاجيال القادمة. ولن يقتصر واجبنا على كتابة، بل علينا ان نروي للاجيال القادمة فنحن ما زلنا نعيش في داخل عالمنا النكبوي كما نعيش في كينونتنا الحالية، حيث يتداخل الماضي في الحاضر، والموجود في المنشود، والواقع في الخيال.
تسمية هذا الكتاب هو عرفان مني الى عمتي حوريه كان لها الفضل الاول في نجاحي في مادة الحضارات عبر التاريخ.
