مضت سبعة قرون على وفاة شيخ الإسلام تقي الدين أبي العباس أحمد بن تيمية ، ولازال الناس في أمره مختلفين : فقد رأى بعينيه معارضيه ، وسمع بأذنيه أقوالهم فيه ، وقرأ بنفسه ما كتبوه عنه وعن آرائه ، ولم يكن معارضوه ممن لا يلتفت إليهم بل كانوا من العلماء المبرزين الذين إذا قالوا سمع قولهم ، وإذا أفتوا التزمت فتواهم . كانوا – رحمهم الله – في بعض نقدهم لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية مغالين أشد غلو حتى كفر بعضهم من نعته بشيخ الإسلام . باحثوه في مسائل فروعية ، وأنكروا عليه فيها مذهبه أبغض نكير مع أنها من المسائل الخلافية منذ كانت وإلى يومنا هذا .
