لم يتحرك يعقوب صنوع داخل دائرة البلاط الملكي والمسرح فحسب، حيث احتك بالدائرة الفكرية التي تَحلَّقت حول جمال الدين الأفغاني، الذي شجعه هو والشيخ محمد عبده على الكتابة في الصحف، وإنشاء صحيفة عـربية تُكتَب بالعامية، حسبما روى الدكتور عبد الوهاب المسيري عنه، ولقد كان صنوع ثائرا قدم النقد الاجتماعي في قالب فكاهي كوميدي، وعلى ضوء ذلك تمحور هذا الكتاب حول ``الصحفي الثائر`` يعقوب صنوع وإسهاماته في المسرح والصحافة المصريين، ومن موضوعات الكتاب: (روح العصر، من صور يعقوب في أوائل عهده بباريس، صورة البرنس حليم أمل المصريين في عهدي إسماعيل وتوفيق، وأبو نظارة زرقا.. لسان حال الأمة المصرية الحرة).
