لاشك بأنّ دور المثقف العربي في واقعه المعيش، يكتسي مكانة هامة، كونهُ محرّك للتاريخ كبعدٍ ثانٍ؛ علاوةً على أهمية العنصر الاقتصادي كما دلّل على ذلك كارل ماركس. ورغم أن أحاديّة هذه العنصر الاقتصادي في تحريك التاريخ والراهن؛ الذي سيصبح تاريخاً لا محالة، ليس توجه ماركس، بحسبانهِ المختلق الأكبر لهذه الأحاديّة، كما يعتقد الماركسيون، لاسيما العرب منهم، فقد وُجدت في مخطوطات ماركس القديمة التي تعود إلى 1848، بالإضافة إلى مؤلفات إريك فروم، ومدرسة فرنكفورت، التي أعتبرها شخصياً التجديد الجدّي الأول في الفكر الماركسي برمته. يقول في ماركس في مخطوطاته، بأنّ العنصر الاقتصادي لم يعد العنصر الوحيد المفسّر للإنسان، وظروف صراعه، وتشكلات انزياحاته، إذ إنّ الطبقة العاملة – حسب ماركس- لا تحتكر الدور الوحيد والمركزي في تحريك التاريخ، فالإنسان باعتباره ينحو إلى استقلال معين عن الطبقة، هو الآخر أحد عناصر هذا التاريخ.
