هو عالم وأديب سوري وأستاذ في جامعة دمشق، وأحد أبرز المفكرين والمثقفين في سورية، لديه أكثر من 22 انتاج أدبي وعلمي في مختلف الميادين الأدبية والسياسية والعلمية.
كان له الفضل في تحقيق مكاسب كبيرة لأعضاء اتحاد الكتاب العرب وخاصة في أول سنتين من تسلمه رئاسة اتحاد الكتاب العرب في عام 2005 تمثلت بتحقيق وفر عام بقيمة 27 مليون ليرة سورية، كما قام برفع قيمة الضمان شالصحي وأجور الأعضاء.

ابن المقفع سيرة إبداع بين حضارتين (العربية و الفارسية) لقيت شخصية عبد الله بن المقفع وفكره ونثره عناية القدماء والمحدثين؛ ووقف أكثرهم صفين متقابلين في تهمة الزندقة التي وجهت إليه؛ منهم من اتهمه بها وأثبتها عليه مع التعصب لبني بجدته من الفرس؛ ومنهم من ظل على شكه في تلك التهمة، لكنه وصفه برقة الدين، ونذر أن وجدنا دارساً برأه من أي منهما على وجود آخرين لم يتعرضوا لهذه القضية برمتها.وعلى الرغم من ذلك فقد رأيناهم جميعاً يتفقون على أنه كان ثاني اثنين مع عبد الحميد بن يحيى الكاتب؛ أستاذه ومعاصره؛ تركا بصمة عظيمة في النثر العربي في زمن صعب، زمن بدايات النثر الفني، إذ شكلا في مرحلة الريادة هذه مدرسة فنية أدبية في الكتابة أخذ الناشئة من الكتاب يتتلمذون على يديها؛ فضلاً عن أثرهما في كل من جاء بعدهما من الأدباء كالجاحظ وابن قتيبة وابن طباطبا وأبي هلال العسكري وابن عبد ربه وقدامة بن جعفر وابن رشيق والثعالبي... ولكنهم جميعاً أغفلوا ما له من شعر وكأنهم رأوا في نثره شخصيته وعبقريته المتميزة في الدعوة إلى الإصلاح، وفي أساليبه.
