تَقَعُ أَحْداثُ قِصَّتِنا فِي بِلادِ الهِنْد؛ حيثُ وقَعَ الأَمِيرُ الشَّاب فِي غَرامِ فَتاةٍ ذَاتِ جَمالٍ أخَّاذ، وهامَ بِحُبِّها ثُمَّ تَزوَّجها، وسَلَّمَها قلْبَه. عاشَا مَعًا في سَعادةٍ لا نَظِيرَ لَهَا قبلَ أنْ تُفرِّقَ يَدُ القَدَرِ بَينَهُما بمَوْتِها المُفاجِئ. وبرَحِيلِها اعْتصَرَ حُزْنٌ هائِلٌ قلْبَ الأمير قَبلَ أنْ يُقرِّرَ اعْتِزالَ النِّساءِ وتَخلِيدَ ذِكْرى حَبِيبتِه ببِناءِ صَرْحٍ يَكُونُ أُعْجوبةَ الدُّنْيا عَلى مَرِّ الزَّمَان، وشاهِدًا عَلى حُبِّه الخالِدِ لَها، وقرَّرَ أنْ يُسمِّيَه «لُؤْلُؤة الحُب»، ويَضعَ فِيهِ التَّابُوتَ الجَمِيلَ الَّذِي صنَعَه للمَلِكةِ الفَقِيدة.
